Filippos Vallianatos is a Professor of physics from Geophysics-Solid Earth Physics, Technology Educational Institute of CRETE, School of Natural Resources & Environment, Department of Geoenvironment, Laboratory of Geophysics & Seismology & Senior Research Fellow in Geophysics. He received his degree in Physics. With Honours, from University of Athens, Physics Department from 1981-1985. He has done his PhD in Geophysics-Solid Earth Physics (University of Athens, Physics Department). The title of his PhD thesis is: Magnetotelluric investigation of the electrical conductivity in the areas of Thiva and Ioannina (Greece).1985-1989. He has done his Postdoctoral research at Department of Solid Earth Physics, University of Uppsala from 1989-1990. He collaborated with the Dept. of Seismology of the University of Uppsala for the installation of seismological and magnetotelluric stations at various sites in Greece (1986).

Turki Mohammed A. Mohamed Bahnassy is the Professor of Soil Science, Alexandria University, Egypt. He has completed his Graduation from the department of soil and water sciences.He was faculty of agriculture, Alexandria University in 1982, He got MS in 1987 in soil survey and land evaluation,and obtained PhD in 1993 about the application of GIS for the analysis of dryland watershed. He became a full professor in 2003, and worked in several projects as a database administrator and GIS specialist. Dr.Mohamed Ibrahim Dosouky Helal is the Professor of Soil Chemistry at cairo University, Egypt.He published 8 articles in international journals as recorded by Scopus data base. He has done his B.Sc. in Agricultural Science in 1976, M.Sc. in Soil Science in 1982 from from Cairo University. The M. SC. Thesis entitled “ Status of some micronutrients “Boron” in the soils of Egypt.He has done Ph. D. in Soil Science from Cairo University in the year 1988. The Ph. D. thesis entitled “ Status of potassium in the soils of Egypt”. His research activities deal with application of nanotechnology in remediation of heavy metals polluted soil. Various nano-particles; nano scale zero valent iron “nZVI”, nZVI-bentonite, nano alginate and nano carbon; are used as a potential sorbents to eliminate heavy metals from polluted soil. These nanoparticles are prepared in lab either using bottom-up or top-down methods, then characterized using transmission electron microscope (TEM). Also, these nano particles could be potentially used to decontaminate heavy metals polluted water.

Hamdy H. Seisa is a Prof. of Applied Geophysics at El Mansoura University. He received his B Sc in special Geology and M Sc in Geophysics both from El Mansoura University and his Doctorate (Dr rer nat) in shallow refraction seismic interpretation from TU Berlin, Germany. He awarded 3 Post Doctor Fellowships from DAAD (Germany) 1996, OEAD (Austria) 1997and DFG (Germany) 2000. Prof. Seisa jointed several workshops and seminars in several countries and was an invited speaker in many institutes and conferences in Germany, Austria, Italy, Japan, Denmark and KSA. He published several articles on near surface refraction seismic in local and international journals.

Ahmed El Mahmoudi is a professor of Applied Geophysics and currently working at Water Studies Center, King Faisl University, Saudi Arabia. He awarded his Ph. D in "Applied Geophysics" in 1995 from Wales University/UK and Mansoura University/Egypt according to Channel System of Egyptian Universities. He worked at Mansoura university/Egypt (from 1985 to 2000) and UAE University (from 2000 to 2006) before joining King Faisl University, kSA, in 2006. Ahmed El Mahmoudi served as a Principal and Co-Investigator for many funded research projects in the field of Engineering and environmental Geophysics and water resources, in the Editorial board and as a Referee to many Scientific International Journals. He also served as acting Chair for Geology Dept., UAE University & as Vice Director of Water studies Centre, King Faisal University, Saudi Arabia. He is also the Visiting Scholar at Nanjing Institute of Geography and Limnology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (NIGLAS) in 2010. He was the research fellow at US Geological Survey National Centre DURING the period of 1986 – 1987.

His current research interests are to understanding the influence of the climate change variability /change on the quantity and chemical character of groundwater resources in basement aquifers of semi arid and arid regions.

Quaternary stratigraphy of continental margins in Marine geological record of human activity in coastal and marine environments

Sumit Mukhopadhyay is a member of the scientific staff in the Earth Sciences Division at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL). Sumit received his Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the University of Southern California in 1995. After a stint of about three years at Purdue University as Research Associate, he joined LBNL in 1998 as a scientist. In 2004, Sumit was made a career member of the scientific staff. Sumit has over 60 scientific publications, about 25 of which are in peer-reviewed journals, in addition to numerous laboratory and research reports. Sumit’s area of expertise is numerical model development and applications for coupled subsurface flow and transport processes. He has worked in coupled fluid and heat transport processes associated with radioactive waste disposal in the unsaturated zone, numerical modeling study of reductive bioimmobilzation of Cr(VI) in groundwater, reactive transport modeling of plume mobility using a reactive facies approach, reactive transport of natural isotopic tracers in geothermal reservoirs, and subsurface sequestration of supercritical carbon dioxide. Sumit has developed methodologies for estimating the transport properties of unsaturated fractured rock from flowing fluid temperature logging (FFTL) using multiphase inverse modeling. Sumit’s research interest also includes investigation of feedback effects of reactive transport on flow in the unsaturated zone and analysis of multiphase transport processes in air-gap membrane distillation for purification of seawater.

Uma Seeboonruang has completed her Ph.D from University of California – Davis and postdoctoral studies also from the university and Kyushu – Tokai University majoring in groundwater flow and contaminant transport. She has conducted numerous research projects and published a number of papers regarding to soil – groundwater acidity and salinity problems and recently has started the study the impact of climate change on groundwater and soil salinity in Thailand.

He received financial supports from Thai government, Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), and the Ministry of Education, Sport and Culture, Japan, for conducting his researches as a part of B.Sc. and M.Sc.degree.In 2006, he finally obtained his Ph.D. in Geography, Earth & Environmental Sciences, School of Geography, Earth & Environmental Sciences Division of Environmental Health and Risk Management, The University of Birmingham, United Kingdom. He then spent five years as a lecturer at the Faculty of Environmental Management, Prince of Songkla University, Thailand. His work there lied within the field of climate change and extend from fundamental studies of marine chemistry on the one hand through to carcinogenicity of gaseous and airborne fine particulate persistent organic pollutants (POPs), particularly polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), alkanes, hopanes and cholestanes at the other extreme. In 2006, he was granted from UNESCO for conducting collaboration research with Hong Kong Polytechnic University under the title of “Source Apportionment of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and the effects of soot particle on gas-particle partitioning of PAHs”. In 2007, he was sponsored by National Research Council of Thailand to study characteristic of atmospheric profile and its effects on variation of air pollution in Thailand (CAPE). In the same year, he was also financially supported by DFG (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft) on Thai-German Cooperative Research and Capacity Building: Ocean Geoscience, Marine Ecology and Engineering for Natural Hazard Management and Sustainable Use of Marine Resources: Tsunami Deposits in Near-Shore and Coastal Waters of Thailand (TUNWUT). In 2010, he was granted from Institute of Earth Environment, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Xi’an, China to conduct two researches under the titles of “Long Term Observatory of PM2.5 in Bangkok Atmosphere (LOPBA)” and “Intensive Monitoring Campaign of PM2.5 at Northern Region of Thailand at Multiple Sampling Sites during Forest Fire Episode (IMPRESS)”. In 2011, he was selected by United Nation Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and Pollution Control Department (PCD) as a national project manager to responsible for demonstration of Best Available Technique (BAT) and Best Environmental Practice (BEP) in fossil fuel-fired utility and industrial boilers in response to the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) in Thailand. He has published extensively as a columnist of “Bangkokbiznews” in topics of innovations. He had contributed expansively in peer reviewed of international journal of analytical and environmental sciences. He is an active international scientific advisory committee of Wessex Institute of Technology (WIT), United Kingom, responsible for air pollution session. He also works with several private sectors such as IRPC Co. Ltd, Bara Scientific Co., Ltd, Fujitsu Thailand Co., Ltd and Nissui Thailand Co., Ltd. Yu-Pin Lin, is a professor in the department of Bioenvironmental Systems Engineering at National Taiwan University in Taiwan.He obtained his Ph.D. degree from Georgia Institute of Technology in USA. Prof. Lin has interested in application and development of Eco-hydrological and hydrogeological modeling, water quality modeling, soil heavy metal pollution, geostatistical spatiotemporal methods, multi-scale analysis, quantitative methods in landscape ecology, watershed land use modeling, and optimal monitoring sampling design. Daniela S Mainardi is an Associate Professor and Program Chair of Chemical Engineering at Louisiana Tech University, currently holding the Thomas C. & Nelda M. Jeffery Professorship in Chemical Engineering. Mainardi has extensive experience in a large variety of multi-scale molecular simulation tools and has conducted research on different and complementary nano- and bio-technology-related topics with applications to transport and catalysis. Mainardi has received the NSF-CAREER award in 2005 on Modified-Methanol Dehydrogenase Enzymatic Catalysts For Fuel Cell Devices. Mainardi is a senior member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) and the current AIChE Transport and Energy Processes Division Chair.

Rick Fontenot has received his bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Louisiana Tech University in 1974. He has 35 years of experience in the Petrochemical, Refining, and Polyolefins industries. Rick Fontenot was a Vice President for Lyondell Chemical Company in various capacities from 1996 until his retirement in 2008. During his career with Lyondell and predecessor companies, he has worked in Process Engineering, Production Management, R&D Management, Project Engineering, Process Optimization, and Technology Licensing. Rick was named a Louisiana Tech Distinguished Alumnus in Chemical Engineering in 2011.

Elizabete F Lucas is Chemical Engineer and obtained her D.Sc. degree in Polymer Science and Technology from Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) in 1994. She is Associate Professor at UFRJ since 1994 and has been accumulating a great experience in Polymer Science Applied to Petroleum Production for about 25 years. She is the director of the Laboratory of Macromolecules Applied to Petroleum Production (LMCP), has published 107 scientific papers, presented more than 250 talk/poster at conferences and written 3 books, 1 polymer dictionary, 1 vocabulary of oil chemistry and refining (in 4 languages), 1 book translation and 3 chapters of books. Since she has a strong interaction with petroleum industry, about 90 research reports and 36 technical reports have been prepared. The main studies involve polymer synthesis/characterization/properties, physical-chemistry of polymer solution, rheology of polymers and methods to evaluate the performance of polymers applied to different operations in oil production, from drilling to oil and water treatment. In such field, she has directed 30 master dissertations and 14 doctor thesis, and has 7 master dissertations and 11 doctor thesis under direction.

Professor Kalliat T Valsaraj received his M.Sc. in Chemistry from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras in 1980 and his Ph.D in Chemistry (with Chemical Engineering as Minor) from Vanderbilt University in 1983. He is a Professor in the Cain Department of Chemical Engineering and served as the Department Chair from 2005 to 2011. He holds the titles of Charles and Hilda Roddey Distinguished Professor in Chemical Engineering and Ike East Professorship in Chemical Engineering. Currently he serves as an Associate Vice Chancellor within the Office of Research and Economic Development at LSU. His research area is in environmental chemical engineering. He has broad research experience in waste water treatment, atmospheric chemistry and, modeling the fate and transport of contaminants in all three environmental media (air, water and soil/sediment). His present research is concerned with the transformations of pollutants on atmospheric aerosols (fog, rain, ice and snow), mercury sequestration in sediments and, high pressure / low temperature phase equilibrium studies of relevance to the sub-sea oil/gas spills. He has provided consulting and expert opinions to various industries, State and Federal agencies. He is the author of 1 textbook (with three editions), 175 peer-reviewed journal articles, 27 book chapters and 2 U.S. patents. His research has been supported by the NSF, EPA, DOE, DOD, USGS and private industries. He is a Fellow of both the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE). He recently received the Charles E Coates memorial award from the Baton Rouge sections of AIChE and ACS. He is also the recipient of the Distinguished Research Master award, the highest research award, from LSU.

J.C. Jones holds the ‘blue ribbon’ degree of Doctor of Science from the University of Leeds, from which he also obtained a BSc and a PhD. He worked in Australia for over seventeen years, latterly at the University of New South Wales. He has over 700 publications including fifteen books.
